Event Details
The tradition of Thanksgiving is traced back to 1621 celebration at Plymouth in present-day Massachusetts. The feast of thanksgiving was prompted by a good harvest when the local Indians shared an autumn harvest feast with the pilgrims that is acknowledged today as one of the first Thanksgiving. The Pilgrims and the Thanksgiving holiday were used to teach children about freedom and how to share and care each other. "Pilgrim" became the popular term applied to the people arriving in United States in those early years. This ritual of Thanksgiving became a well establish tradition of American culture. However, spirit of Thanksgiving gradually lost. Particularly recent divisive rhetoric against immigrant has played a significant role in creating hatred among people of color, minorities and immigrants. Nonetheless, majority of Americans still uphold the true spirit of Thanksgiving by sharing and caring. How can we revive the true spirit of Thanksgiving?
