Transformative Energy: Making Solar Affordable and Equitable
About: 
The session will uncover new partnerships and models that bring the benefits of solar and energy retrofits to low-income communities nationwide. Denver Housing Authority (DHA) will discuss its recent development: a $3.8 million, 2 MW Community Solar Program. It’s the first housing authority in the country to develop, own and operate its own community solar garden. In this presentation, DHA will discuss how the project’s origins, challenges and overcoming them, and elaborate on how its solar garden benefits its low-income residents.
After DHA’s story, the panel will share experiences seeking solar opportunities and finding them in a diverse financial landscape. They will discuss the value of building performance data and how it can be leveraged during negotiations. As a national developer of affordable housing, WISHROCK will explore federal, regional, and local solutions that transform the market and bring solar into affordable housing. The audience will hear answers on how to evaluate on-site, rooftop solar systems, and community solar in urban and rural housing communities. These examples will shed light on the role of green banks, RECs, federal tax credits, grants, and rebates in financing solar deals serving low-income housing.
