Congregation Ahavath Chesed is proud to host its third annual Jacksonville Jewish Food Festival. More than 800 people attended last year's event, and another large crowd is expected for this year's event, which is scheduled for Sunday, May 4.

Congregation Ahavath Chesed is proud to host its third annual Jacksonville Jewish Food Festival. More than 800 people attended last year’s event, and another large crowd is expected for this year’s event, which is scheduled for Sunday, May 4.
“We’re thrilled that we can engage a wide variety of vendors to entice the community’s collective taste buds with delicious Jewish food. This year’s theme will be Jewish Food from Around the World. We are reminded that traditionally Jewish people adapted recipes to their surroundings, and we can reflect that this adaptation and incorporation of surroundings influenced many different cultures with their food traditions that remain today,” Michelle Pargman, this year’s event chair, explains.
In addition to the foods that represent the Jewish diasporic experience, traditional brisket sliders, corned beef, matzah ball soup, potato pancakes, falafel, kugel and macaroons will be available for sampling as well by all attendees.
The event will highlight the second annual baked goods contest called Bubbe’s Bake Off – bubbe is Yiddish for “grandmother.” Last year featured expert judges, including food bloggers and recipe book authors, and the winning recipes were featured in The Florida Times-Union. This year’s event will also see the return of the L’Chaim Wine Wall. For $18, attendees purchase a numbered cork, and each cork goes with a random bottle. There is significance behind the cork cost – the Hebrew letters in “Chai” (which is part of “L’chaim”) add up to the number 18. There may even be a last-minute wine swap that will be sure to add to the fun.
